I'm finally giving in and getting a blackberry, and I see they have them at Metro PCS. Has anyone had any experience with them and what do they think? Any other recommendations locally of where to go? I have verizon phone service if that makes any difference.

i looked into them because they seemed like they were a good deal, and they are; so long as you never plan on leaving the city:

i've heard some people who have it say that there are dead spots all over the city as well

I got my BlackBerry at the Verizon store in the Cambridgeside Galleria in 2007 (Lechmere T stop). I've been so satisfied that I've been lazy about upgrading.

I thought Angeltronics had moved from Davis Square (in the Harvard Vanguard building) to Ball Square, but now they seem to be back and renamed 'Metro PCS' ?

my roommate got service through them, seeing as they seem to have a nice, relatively cost-effective plan, and all that.

then she started getting calls, and she got no caller ID when people called her. turned out she had to pay $5/mo for them to stop filtering caller ID so she could know who was calling. so she left and got service somewhere else.

Not exactly correct. Cell Phones don't require (yet) to identify themselves through caller id systems. Basically, if you don't have the contact info in your phone and assigned to the incoming call number, you won't get any info on calls originating on a cell phone. The $5 program MetroPCS offers is called ScreenIT is an upgrade that bridges this gap.

Soon it won't be necessary though as cell phone systems will enable caller id for all their phones.
