Any other Davis Square residents around here whose Sunday schedules will be inconvenienced by The Jingle Bell Run? I complained in more detail about it over on Somerville Voices.
Your complaint is that two days is not enough notice for you to move your car out of the way of a charity event about which you were not consulted. I understand it perfectly--I live on the race route, too, and have for two years. The difference is that I don't resent charity and people having fun, and I know how to drive my car to a place where I could use it.
You still don't get the fact this has nothing to do with the event being for charity or fun nor the fact that I, too, could drive my car outside the loop beforehand. The issue is that the City/event organizers apparently never consulted the residents about any of this and have not been giving adequate notice to residents in the affected and surrounding neighborhoods.
Isn't that why we have elected officials? So the City doesn't have to negotiate with every resident individually. The Board of Alderman did approve this event. If you don't think two days is adequate notice, maybe you should ask your alderperson for a list of upcoming races, since they happen every year?
