Another good Davis Sq deal on BuyWithMe. $20 for $40 at Tu y Yo. I love mexican food, and hear great things about this little restaurant. Looking forward to giving it a try! Just wanted to give you all a heads up.

Seconded on both counts. Technically Oaxacan I think... And Oaxaca being the food capital of Mexico it's definitely more interesting that your average Mexican, though completely different.

okay, to clarify, not what some people would think of immediately when you say mexican.... not everyone has such sophisticated tastes as to differentiate between mexican/tex-mex etc. I just meant it's not all burritos and tacos and chips and salsa, etc.

Tu Y Yo used to be good, but has really, I mean really, gone down hill in the last couple of years IMHO.

When I went about 3 months ago, I ordered some zucchini dish. It was basically a plate of sauteed zucchini with some seasonings - that's it. It was un-tasty, zucchini was overcooked and it came with a side of beans. All for $18. I really thought that for that price it was going to be something special - since zucchini in season is about 2 cents a pound. But nope, it was just that - sauteed zucchini with some sauce - a dish that I make much better a home.

Also, I had tastier food in Taco Bell than this place.

I ate at Tu y Yo once. The fish my dining companion was served had a staple in it. Like, in it. Not just on top, like it had accidentally fallen from a desk or a box or something. But inside the fish. I've not been back.

I live quite close, and have been to Tu y Yo several times in the past year or two. I've always had interesting, tasty dishes and I am very pleased that they are different from Taco Bell. If you like Taco Bell better, you are probably not expecting the right thing from this place. In addition, I saw a wedding proposal made and accepted here, so I can't help but get a warm fuzzy feeling. The service is always friendly, if not the fastest in town. Sangria is great (not that difficult, I know, but you can tell if someone just pours it out of a bottle marked "sangria" instead of doing their own thing). I really enjoy it every time I come.
