In my old town, there were kids that would go door to door after a snow storm and shovel sidewalks for $20. I'm noticing that that isn't the norm here in Somerville. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any enterprising youths that might be interested in shoveling my sidewalk, stairs and driveway -- price negotiable.

Tax free?

I'm betting if you were willing to be the kind of person that showed up at 6 am after it had been SLEETING all night and put the (pre-purchased) salt on the walk and/or shovel slush out of the way, my landlords would be willing to pay you for the privilege.

...and if they won't, I will.

because whomever they're using now isn't being very vigilant about it.

Your best bet is to contact one of the many landscaping companies in the area, but they are not cheap by any means.

You can find people on Craigslist as well, but to clear stairs, sidewalk, and driveway, you are likely looking at $50 per visit or more.

Hi! My boyfriend Nathan can do it (he's at work now, so I'm replying for him). He's been looking for some extra work to help pay college tuition. The only catch is, he's leaving for Washington tomorrow morning (well, when the snow lets up) and won't be back January 5th. Other than that, he has a very flexible schedule.

His email is nathaninsomerville @ gmail dot com.

Er, that is, he won't be back *until* January 5th.

wow, seriously? We live in Winter Hill and last winter there was no shortage of adolescent boys with shovels asking to dig us out for cash. One time we didn't have any money at home and some darling young men STILL dug us out apparently out of boredom. I'd suggest asking any young-ish kids you see out tomorrow - they're probably more eager than you think.
