Few city-dwellers give much thought to the people that they meet each day. Take Harold Moore. The newspaper vendor, 48, held a cane in his left hand and the Dec. 17 issue of "Spare Change News" in his right at the Davis Square T stop in Somerville. "Season of Giving," the headline read. Little did Moore know that the very next morning, a gift would come to him - and not just a Dunkin' Donuts gift card, either.
This season, patron Tom Chevalier organized about 20 people to raise $275 for the hard-working newspaper man. Moore doesn't earn that much in a week.
