A freezing day like this reminds me to share my recent discovery that poutine has been added to the menu at Eat At Jumbo's in Ball Square. Comfort soaked in gravy.
The owner told me (when I asked) that he unfortunately doesn't have local access to authentic cheese curds (the ones from Trader Joe's suck). But he substitutes what he described to me as "Vermont cabot," whatever that may be, and the flavor and consistency is similar to what I've had in Montreal. Gooey. Greasy. Glorious.

Date: 2009-12-29 08:23 pm (UTC)yeah, unpasteurized curds are illegal in MA. the pasteurized are good, but not the same. i mail order pasteurized ones in from NY state to satiate the craving.

Date: 2009-12-29 08:31 pm (UTC)unfortunately (for me) I don't eat meat, so I have to make my own poutine or do without. I know some folks who need to hear about this though.

Date: 2009-12-29 10:39 pm (UTC)(OK, OK, Shelburne Farms cheese is great too. So's Cabot. Realistically speaking in America it's either decent cheese at minimum or horrible plastic).

Date: 2009-12-29 10:49 pm (UTC)but i've never had a problem, and with other places i realize it might not be the restaurant's fault (occasionally foodler has been down, not sent along instructions, etc). no big deal. for a person with social anxiety foodler is a freaking godsend, so pretty much outweighs the possible negatives :D
