I am meeting up with a lovely woman tomorrow afternoon and I would like to take her somewhere conducive to a great first date. Conducive meaning good food and great atmosphere. I am looking for something in Cambridge/Somerville. I am thinking somewhere that aids to striking up some good conversation and delivers up tasty food and beverages! Any suggestions?

Thx!

Maybe not what you are looking for, but I always find the Diesel Cafe to be a nice meeting spot.

If you are looking for more of a sit-down and get food type of place, then I would look elsewhere, but if you are looking for somewhere to get some coffee and have some good conversation without being interrupted, definitely try Diesel.

It has worked for me...

Meeting at Diesel or Someday and then walking around together, and picking somewhere to eat, usually works well for me. But if you're looking for a specific place to have a date at and sit down and have great food, try House of Tibet on Holland Street near Teele Square. It's cozy and usually very quiet there.

Seconding House of Tibet. It's quiet, the wait staff is simultaneously helpful and unobtrusive, the food is fantastic (it's got tons of stuff for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike), and it's usually not uncomfortably packed.

Namaskar. Quiet, good food, classy, stylish, vegetarian-friendly, serves alcohol.

its not at night or on a weekend....at least at night you could each have a drink and not feel self-conscious. who knows, maybe you can (if so, bully for you!).

A nice place in the square at lunch? I like the diesel idea myself. there's more privacy (in the back) than at House of Tibet or Namaskar. Food's not as good though. But it sounds like talking matters more than chewing eh?

In Cambridge/Somerville there Harvest in Harvard Sq. that can get a lil' pricey, but its so good and cool vibe etc. There's also Cambridge 1 for pizza in Harvard Square.

Hell, Redbones always spurs conversation and has tons of beverages!
But I dont know if barbecue is too messy for a first date or not.

Anyone been to Sauce in Davis yet? Food is meh, but i like the place and the drinks.

Anyway, good luck!

Redbones, in my experience, is much too loud for conversation.

as is diesel. diesel makes a good landmark/meeting location, then adjourn to someplace quieter for actual conversation...

I find that Diesel is OK for talking, but I also tend to go there on weekday evenings and other less-crowded times. It can be loud when it's crowded, yeah.
