Where is the closest place to buy blank CDs in the square?

Do I have to go all the way to Porter?

Does Brooks have them? CD Spins?

?

Brooks. I was in the same predicament a few months ago. :)

Hehe. One of the Davis Sq. buses (87 or 88) goes to Union Sq., I think, and the Target is just a quick walk away from there.

Maybe I just like Target too much.

Both the 87 and the 88 actually stop right in front of Target, but catching them back from there is so crappy I almost never go.

I think the Store 24 actually has them. Just not cheap ;)

Porter's not so very far, especially if you walk up Elm (I am also car-less)...and apart from the Radio Shack there, they have them at the CVS...which is open 24 hours...

Bicycle to Fresh Pond and hit the Staples there? Bicycle to Microcenter? (Both also accessible by public transit--Fresh Pond is an easy walk from Alewife, although you have to do a dangerous crossing of Rt 16, and Microcenter is accessible via the Red Line to Central and then the 47 bus.)

Dangerous crossing of Rte. 16? Isn't there a ped xing a little ways down from the entrance to the WholeFoods/Staples/movie theater mall?

There are two crosswalks: one at Rindge Ave., and one at the vehicle entrance to the parking lot. basically, one at each end of the railroad bridge. I remember doing this on foot some time ago (I usually drive there, but I was on the Red Line that day) and dodging traffic. I'm not sure why. Memories are vague. Maybe the pushbutton to actuate the "Walk" light was malfunctioning that day, or the crosswalks were inconveniently located, or something...but I remember doing the walk from Alewife to Fresh Pond and having to dodge traffic on 16 for whatever reason. Or maybe I'm just misremembering.

I have no idea what your car-needing situation is, but you might want to investigate Zipcar (http://www.zipcar.com). If you need to drive someplace (like a job) and leave the car sitting there for hours, Zipcar is probably too expensive to be worth it. But if you mostly want a car for running errands, it's fantastic! And way cheaper than buying a car and paying gas, insurance, etc.
