So, I just got the robocall from Tom Champion (tm) and it made me realize my parking permit may be out of date. It has a big "1" on it, that's the month right? Not some district or whatever. What I don't remember is whether it expires at the BEGINNING of the month, or the END of the month...

My inspection, which ALSO is this month needs to be done by the END of the month...

End of the month, I believe.

I can't speak for Somerville, but Cambridge's parking permits expire at the end of January.

End of the month.

Yes, the 1 indicates the month, because permits expire in different months depending on where in Somerville you are. This is a better system than in Cambridge, where everyone's permit expires at the same time.

END of the month..just to confirm it again! You'll probably get a renewal thing the next week or so anyways.

I think the big number is *both* zone and month. Or, at least, we're in zone 2 and ours expires at the end of Feb.

There aren't any zones for resident permits -- only for visitor permits.

But I thought they assign you an expiration month number based on your (first) neighborhood.

That may be true, but it's not a 'zone' -- your residential permit is good throughout the city.

My only advice is not to wait until the end of the month, else you'll be cursing the wait in line. Oh man, never again.

Dear gods, yes.

Monday afternoon, arrived at 1455 - got visitor placards and out the door by 1700.

Line was out the door and around the corner.

parking permit-the truth!

That big number is the Ward you live in. Each ward has a different month by which they need be renewed, to diffuse the renewal process. The permit is good throughout the city of course but serves to identify the area where you garage. I live in Ward 5 and have until the end of March to renew. I think the month you need to renew by is written in tiny print at the bottom of the sticker. Sorry, its too cold for me to go check!
