So I missed recycling pick up today - have a bunch of NY's eve party wine bottles overflowing the recycling bin. Dug around the somerville city site but didn't see any info @ drop-offs. Anyone know if it is possible to drive over to the sanitation dept and drop of there?

Your best bet would probably be to find out which streets have Wednesday pickups, then put your recycling out on that street.

I second this.

I don't think so. The DPW yard does have a drop-off bin for paper recycling (no cardboard), but I don't think there's a drop-off for plastic and glass. Could always give a call to 411.

... remembers when 411 was called 'Information' instead of 'Directory Assistance', and they'd regularly get people calling in with questions like this one.

This is such a perfect 311 question. That's what it's there for.

if you don't mind driving and reeeeeeally want to get rid of it, you could also always drive someplace else. i know - from the sad aspect of living directly behind it with my bedroom window open year round - that marty's in allston had that recycling bit in the back, i'm sure if you posted to [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n there'd be a bunch of other similar places.

There are the big blue recycling barrels throughout cambridge for plastic, cans, and glass recycling. I know there is one just before harvard sq. on mass ave (the bus stop) and I *think* there's one near Christopher's. Technically for single use at a time, but if you get desperate...

Why cannor you wait a week?

Sometime I forget, but I compress (i.e., I stomp on) all the stuff in the bin and there is really room for two weeks of recycle! :)

Sadly I find this tactic works poorly for glass bottles and jars :)

Even if you can't drop the bottles off at the DPW, you could probably pick up an extra recycling bin or two there.
