Has anyone been to that Wild Oats supermarket on Route 16? I pass it sometimes, having completely forgotten it exists, and I'm wondering if it's any good. I'm looking for an organic roaster chicken without battling the madness at Fresh Pond.
If you're okay with spending a little more to get organic food, then it might be worth it. (I am) The selection isn't as good as Whole Foods, but the madness level is much lower.
I'm cooking a pretty basic chicken dinner for company, and none of the ingredients are very out there. So this place sounds like it might be worth a try. It's Saturday afternoon and I am so not up for dealing with total craziness.
I don't know WHY people all scramble to pay crazy Bread and Circus prices; must be the cache--but I love Wild Oats and pretty much go there exclusively now...it's a lot cheaper across the board (esp. produce), no shopping cart traffic jams, fewer dirty looks from uber-busy yuppies (yikes, i'm probably one of them) who resent that you have slowed their progress in buying fig-infused balsamic vinegar one nanosecond by having the gall to be doing your own grocery shopping. The deli is not as extensive for prepared foods, but I'm willing to sacrifice that to enjoy perusing the aisles in peace and quiet.
Fig-infused balsamic vinegar, Jesus! I just want a chicken and some nice taters and plain old nonorganic salad greens. And some pretty produce which, sadly, Foodmaster is lacking right now. Looks like Wild Oats is worth a try. Mmm, peace and quiet. Thanks.
It's my regular grocery store. Definitely cheaper than Whole Paycheck, the aisles are wider and it's not as crazy crowded. I only eat naturally raised meats (more humane reasons than health) and I much prefer the prices/selection and atmosphere in Wild Oats.
I live in Medford and shop there all the time. I love it! Their meat is very fresh, I enjoy their prepared foods a lot, and their produce is simply gorgeous.

Date: 2004-12-04 09:45 am (UTC)We used to shop there all of the time for meat, but the quality has gone down hill in the last two years too. I don't recommend it.
