Folks here probably already know that Farmers' Bounty recently got a license to sell alcohol. The manager of Farmer's Bounty is going to be ordering a bunch of beers in the next few days but doesn't seem to be a much of a beer drinker himself. The selection won't be as wide as Downtown but it should be at pretty reasonable prices. My neighbor and I are helping me him pick out beers. The stuff that is available everywhere from the big distributors (i.e., Bud, Miller, Heineken, etc.) will almost definitely be there.

If folks here anticipate shopping there, post here with suggestions of things that you and people and you know will buy if he orders them and we'll relay a summary of the thread in the next day or so.

No, I actually didn't know that! Thanks for posting this.

Since Downtown Wine already exists across the street, perhaps he should concentrate on obscure or ethnic beers that Downtown doesn't carry? If there are any such to be had. Perhaps from India or Bengal?

That is exactly what he wants to do. He's not out to compete against Downtown, but rather, provide a different selection, including Indian beers. Knowing what beers people like will help make this successful for him. I've given him my suggestions already.

Yeungling would be awesome, but they don't distribute up here :(

It is so unfair that I can't find that up here.

When I go home to Pennsyltucky I always bring back a case of Yeungling.

I brought some home from Christmas, but it's sitting in my aunt's garage in Salem.

Someday, there should be partying.

Or, next time I go, give me cash, and I'll bring cases back. :-P

Unibroue! Also, Oskar Blues; craft beer in a can is always good.

You can get those at Dave's Fresh Pasta and the Teele Sq. liquor store. FYI.

Also Teele Square Liqours, but they're the beers I love.

I've been dying to find Abita beers up here but it might be a distribution issue, not a stocking issue.

Have you actually checked Downtown for it?

The East Arlington B&W stores (Menotomy and Giles) both carry Abita, too.

Nope--after I had some in MD last spring, I checked the web site for locations in Boston that carry it and didn't come up with anything. I guess the site was wrong, or I should have checked again, or whatever. Thanks!

Gurl, I am your Abita hook up. Downtown, Dave's Fresh Pasta, and now Teele Square Liquors all have stocked Abita recently, and Downtown usually has at least the Amber and Turbo Dog (Teele had the Mardi Gras Bock!). The liquor store in Ball Square, on the corner of Willow and Broadway, sells Turbo Dog, sometimes Amber and usually a seasonal. The big liquor store by Whole Foods in Fresh Pond stocks several kinda of Abita.

As for bars, Orleans usually has the seasonal -- they are getting the Strawberry Festival, and excuse me while I die of happiness. Common Ground in Allston is one of the few bars I've found that regularly sells the Amber. A bunch of places in Cambridge have Turbo Dog, and the Baseball Tavern by Fenway -- home of the LSU-Boston Fan Club -- has Purple Haze.

I would LOVE it if they would sell just plain ol' Abita Amber 6-packs for a reasonable price!

You ARE my Abita hookup! Thanks. I'm definitely gonna refer to this comment the next time I'm in Somerville.

It's not in Davis Sq, but Kappy's at Wellington Circle in Medford has Abita beers, and has their Strawberry Harvest seasonal on their shelves now. So delicious!

I actually live closer to Wellington Circle than Davis, so thanks for the suggestion!

This would be a good one for the fine folks on the Beer Advocate forum.
