Spring is around the corner (I hope!) and I want to play ball. For lack of any sort of adult amateur league in Somerville (to my knowledge?) I was hoping maybe the LJ community would have some interest in organizing occasional softball 'scrimmages,' perhaps at Trum Field or some other diamond, this spring and summer, for people who may not be very good but love hitting and throwing around. Is there any interest? If so, comment or e-mail and I'd be happy to coordinate. :-)

Hey all!

The Elizabethans, a coed a capella group from Williams College, is stopping to do a show at First Congregational Church, 89 College Ave. outside Davis Square, this THURSDAY, MARCH 24 at 8 pm. A combination of sacred and secular music for the likewise moody and merry this Maundy Thursday. Free will offering will be accepted; CDs for sale; snax to follow!! Tell your friends!

Hi all! My 3 yo son's home day care in Arlington is recruiting preschoolers for the start of the new school year in September. My little guy has been there for a year and a half and loves it: the main teacher, Lynda, has 20 years experience, runs it in a very Montessori (peaceful, structured, kids resolve own conflicts, multi-age learning) fashion, but for a fraction the cost. In the market for a safe, loving and supportive environment to assuage the horrific guilt you feel at leaving your child with strangers so you can have what passes, some days, for a career? Post back and I'll give you the phone number or any other info you want.

Somerville Mayor Joe Curatone Ward 1 Alderman William Roche recently rejected a bid to have a carnival in Assembly Square, citing the potential for gang violence as a major reason for his decision. He then commented*, "The location is on the Orange Line, so you're not just getting people from Somerville. You're getting different people of different backgrounds." Am I alone in finding that comment not only offensively classist and disrespectful, but downright cringe-worthy coming from a leader in one of our area's most gentrified and well-to-do communities in what is already known as one of the most racially homogenous areas in the country?

anyone have any recommendations for a good and/or cheap(ish) piercing place in the area?

Boston would be fine too so long as I don't have to wait in a line for several hours with teenie boppers getting their belly buttons done.

Step riiight up-- Yep, I'm looking for a housemate too--
Wonderful room in huge sunny apartment- first floor of house. Ample parking even off the street, excellent location, close to Davis Square and Porter. Room for rent is ~13.5' x 11' ft. with a sweet 6.5 x 4.2 ft walk-in closet. Lovely wood panelling(see pics!). Spacious common areas, stocked kitchen, some basement storage, washer, cable & wireless Inet access to share. The house rocks, really!

It's close by Highland Ave and Central, not far from McGrath O'B Highway and 93 too. Great bus and hwy access. I need someone for April 1, but could manage if May 1 were more what you could do.

Me, I am a friendly, bi, kinky mid-30's professional gal; slight female housemate preference, but either. I've packed the kitchen with amenities. Bread-maker, ice cream maker, various fun foodie stuff! And cheery house charm, with New Orleans mask and a few goth accents even (and now _your_ distinctive new look!).
Quiet, safe neighborhood too. Phone: 617-504-1558.
