This coming Tuesday, January 10, there will be a special Democratic primary election for the 27th Middlesex seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. This seat covers about half of Somerville, including Davis Square. Two candidates are running, Denise Provost (now an Alderman-at-Large) and Elizabeth Moroney. No Republicans or independents are running, so the winner of this primary will almost certainly win the seat.

To find out whether you live in the district, go to this page and enter your address. If the "Rep in General Court" is listed as "VACANT - TWENTY-SEVENTH MIDDLESEX DISTRICT", then you do. Moroney's web site also includes a map of the district.

To vote in this Democratic primary, you must be either a registered Democrat, or an registered independent ("unenrolled") voter. If you are not registered, or are registered as a Republican or Green or Libertarian, it is too late to (re-)register now.

I'm supporting Denise, but I consider both candidates to be generally progressive Democrats.

So which of the children's art tiles on the upper wall of the Davis T stop is your favorite? I know the skunk (with cloud of stinky skunk stink) on the way to the College Ave exit is a local favorite, and it's the one I invariably show out-of-town guests, but in recent times I've become quite fond of the drawing of Batman close to the skunk. He's smiling and his arms are outstretched, so I've dubbed it "Batman Needs A Hug."

Course, it's also interesting to note that those kids are now getting into their late 20s. (I wonder if any of 'em are still around, and walk by their tile on a regular basis. I wonder if one of them is you!)

The Somerville Theatre has a new and greatly improved website, including a short essay on its history, lots of historic photos, and some general information about each screen. Check it out.

The same folks own the Capitol Theatre in Arlington and have similarly improved its website, adding history and photos.
