Saturday February 18th. 20% off things that aren't on sale, electronics, and a few other exclusions I can't remember. They were also giving out free popcorn. The ads say "20% off what fits in the bag" but the employees were very clear that it's 20% with or without the bag and regardless of size of purchase.
(I hope this is close enough to Davis Square to be appropriate for this forum)
(edited because my fingers typed March for today's date.)

The red Planned Parenthood sign is now up over the plaza entrance to their new clinic, in what used to be the back part of Buck-A-Book. They've taken the paper off the glass walls, so you can look inside. Looks to me like it's within a week or two of opening. Also looks very small.

A man and a woman are doing some kind of work inside the front part of Buck-a-Book, but they didn't speak English well enough to answer any of my questions such as "what are you working on" or "are you opening a store here" ? Maybe someone else can figure out what their native language is and have better luck.

Since most davis_square folks probably don't read the Cambridge Chronicle, either in print or online, I'm posting a link to their article this week on the Porter Square Books accident.
One of the two women [customers], both of whom live on Buckingham Street, remained hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday. Her friend, who also sustained serious injuries, has been released. A third man who was sitting at the counter and an employee were briefly hospitalized Saturday.

The driver, Joan Puccino, 70, of Somerville, was cited for failing to use caution when parking and negligent operation, according to police spokesman Frank Pasquarello. She was apparently parking her white Chevy Suburban in a handicapped spot in front of the store when her foot got stuck on the accelerator just before noon on Saturday.

The Café Zing folks, who sublet space from the bookstore, hope to reopen within two weeks.
