I'm from the area, but very confused by some of the "townie vs. yuppie" debates i see online and in the newspapers. Especially when it's about zoning or land use. I don't know who is rooting for what.

Like i'm always hearing "yuppies" and college kids lumped together. The yuppies have been here for ten years and are mostly homeowners by now, and may be at cross-purposes politically even though both groups might like the coffee shops in Davis.

So do we need political labels like "yuppie", "landlord", "long-term-renter", "college student" (rhetorical question) because its very difficult to tell who's who.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I've been cleaning out my room (to better organize my life) and to my surprise, I have about 20 books I'd like to get rid of.

So I did some first of the month bills today - and my electric was a whopping $87.00. This is for a 4 room/single occupant apt. I did use some AC last month but geez louise. Did something get deregulated while I wasn't looking??

And now the more important question

So how do house elves apparate within Hogwarts? I thought you couldn't unless some special spell was temporarily turned off - but the house elves seem to do it all the time.

I am new to the area, and living just north of Davis Square near Tufts. I've done a fair amount of exploring, but getting to know a new area takes a lot of time. Anyway, this question may seem broad, but I figured it was appropriate to this community: what are some of the not-to-be-missed restaurants in the immediate area? Where is the best sushi in the area (I know I know, an uber-hipster request)? I suppose I could offer some useful information regarding my taste in food, but I'm more curious about which restaurants in the area people are really passionate about, and why.

I'm sure this community gets a question like this once every week or so; if so, I apologize.

A more specific question: is there anywhere in Davis Square (or the surrounding area) I can buy quality shaving soap for shaving with a straight edge razor?
