A message from moi, Anderson Mar, of Dark Sky Productions:

Official today, I have taken over as the main booking agent for The Skybar in Somerville, MA. Here's our October calendar, updated by [livejournal.com profile] rojagato:

http://www.skybar.us/calendar/

- Tuesdays are singer/songwriter nights
- The 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month are the DARK SKY ("darker alternative" - read: goth/industrial/ethereal/doomy/eclectic/shockrock/etc.) nights
- We occasionally do metal nights...October 7th will be the first of these this month!
- We will also be doing punk nights. Worcesterian icon DJ Matthew Griffin will be assisting with many of these.
- I am open to working with subsidiary bookers who want to come in and set up a night (booking a 3-4 band bill). Email me for details.
- Looking for part-time experienced soundpeople for weeknights.
-Looking for artists/vendors/etc. who would like to come in and showcase and sell their wares during the nights we have live music. I believe strongly in the integration of art/commerce and music. There is never a charge to vend at The Skybar.

Hey everyone,
I'm new to this board so bear with me if this is a silly question!

Over the last several months I have been encountering a little problem that is relatively small, but at the same time drives me up a wall. I want to pose the question to you guys because maybe others have encountered the same issue and found a solution. Or, you can tell me to quit whining.

I've lived in Teele for three years now. I have a car (unfortunately) and must park it on the street. I also have two jobs, one of which on some evenings gets me home very late at night when most people are already sound asleep. This doesn't really present a parking problem except when it's street cleaning night.
Lately, since I think a slew of new people have moved into the neighborhood, I've been encountering parked cars that take up more than one spot. That's normally fine (annoying, but fine), but on the nights when everyone has to park on one side of the street, parking is obviously at a premium. Last night when I came home late, there were four cars taking up two spots each and I had to park quite a ways away from my house. If any of those cars had just been pulled up a foot more, me and my small car could easily fit on the same length of curb.

Obviously, I don't think anyone is dong this out of malice, I just think people aren't aware of how they are parking. I have considered leaving NICE notes on cars or posting signs on the street, but I'm always concerned people will take offense. I definitely don't want to come off as a know-it-all. I just want to find a way to gently nudge people into being a bit more aware of how they park, so that everyone can fit on the street.

Has anyone else ever encountered this and found a solution? Or should I just suck it up and consider it a battle I'll never win? Thanks!

Babysitter

Hi,

I'm looking for a babysitter for my 20-month-old daughter for 6 hrs/wk during the daytime. Our schedule is flexible, although I'm thinking either 3-2hr or 2-3hr blocks of time. Must have high energy because my daughter likes to run around and needs someone to entertain her. I'm expecting another baby in a month and would like to continue with help for my older daughter throughout the winter. If you or anyone you know is interested, please email me at karen@mkmiller.org

Hi again,

We are looking for a home for our 8-year-old male cat.

We've added children to our home in the last 2 years and he's super child friendly -- but he really, really needs more attention than we can give him. He would do best in a household without children and would do fine with other animals as we've had other cats most of the time we've had him.

The problem we are having is peeing outside the litter box. The problem he is having is that he's just not happy. I can't promise he won't ever do it under perfect circumstances, but he definitely started doing this when our daughter was born and his world got turned upside down. All cat supplies we have can come with him; litter box, some litter, some food and treats. If you or anyone you know is interested, please email me at karen@mkmiller.org .
