I have to buy a decent amount of nautical-themed decor/doodads for gifts: model ships, driftwood art, seashell-thingies, anchor-thingies, mermaid imagery, what have you. (I'm not sure yet exactly what all would be sold in such a place since my apartment doees not, in fact, have a nautical theme.)

I should add that this isn't for a theme party or anything--just gifts for someone who enjoys objects reminiscent of the ocean.

Aside from walking the beach with a shopping bag, does anyone have suggestions on where to go? I don't want souvenir-like stuff, but I'm open-minded otherwise.

Dear Artist Friend,

We would like to welcome you to participate in "Waterfall,"  An international benefit exhibition on behalf of WaterAid.

Waterfall is an international collaboration between three artists, Pirjo Heino of Finland, Karmela Berg of Israel, and Ellen Schön from the United States. The artists met through the Transcultural Tile Exchange project in 2004. Their collaboration -- an exhibit, installation, and performance--explores the theme of water as a metaphor for life. Water is transformative and healing, as well as a tangible resource which needs to be protected. The title, "Waterfall" conveys both the idea of abundant water AND water at risk.

The Nave Gallery is proud to be coordinating this exhibition with the Transcultural Exchange's International Opportunities in the Arts Conference.  In this context, the Nave Gallery will host the exhibition from April 2- 26, 2009 9 (opening reception April 2nd). Waterfall will then travel to Art Gallery Ripustus http://www.ripustus.fi in Hämeenlinna, Finland from June 2-28, 2009 (opening reception June 2nd) and later to Tel Aviv, Israel (venue TBA). http://www.artsommerville.org/nave/exhibits.html

As part of the installation, we have invited local and international artists (you!) to donate interpretive snapshots of water. Photos will be sold for $35 each. A portion of the proceeds from the photographs will be donated to WaterAid, an international non-governmental organization whose mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. http://wwwwateraid.org/usa/default.asp

If you would like to participate in "Waterfall", please, send your photo about WATER size A4 (8” x 11” equivalent) with title, date, name, and e-mail address by March 1, 2009 (postmarked deadline) to:

K. Gustafson
c/o The Nave Gallery
155 Powderhouse Blvd.
Somerville, MA 02144
USA

This is a donation--artwork will not be returned. E-mail addresses of participants will be sent to all.  Please forward this mail-art call to your friends.

Is there anywhere in the area that I can silk screen my own t-shirt (just one, for myself)? If not, is there anywhere that sells iron-on paper? Thanks in advance, all!

If you live near Davis Square and belong to this online community you have, to me, every appearance of good taste. I hope that makes this post relevant! (if not, moderator, feel free to delete.)

I have Sprint service and have the opportunity to upgrade from my Sanyo S1 (and its measly 200 contacts.)
For now I've picked up the Sanyo Katana.... only to discover that it has only 300 contacts, plus its bluetooth doesn't work with iSync (although I don't know if any of the phones Sprint offers do!) Luckily, I have 30 days to trade it in.

So please recommend me a phone! I honestly don't know how the service and hardware correspond (there are probably phone that won't work with Sprint service) but I'm open to looking into all suggestions.

Here are my main concerns:
-contacts... 400+ is ideal
-good sound quality.... I'm hard of hearing
-durability/ ease of use..... i have unlimited text messaging and don't want to feel like I'm going to break the thing
-price.... if it costs me my right arm I'll have difficulty making phone calls
-bluetooth that isyncs... ideal, although not necessarily possible

Thanks in advance for any help or insight!!!!
