I live in Somerville with my partner. We don't have any kids, but we dutifully clip the Boxtops for Education off various products we buy. We've got a small ziplock bag full of them now.

We'd really like to donate these to the Somerville school system, but we'd also like for them to get used. Anybody know whether Somerville participates in the program or if they'll just throw them away? If Somerville participates, any idea where I can send/drop them?

I checked the tags and searched [livejournal.com profile] davis_square to no avail. I'm not sure how to search [livejournal.com profile] somervillemass since they don't have LJ Seek set up.

Googling, I found a link to the Capuano PTA fundraising page, but no discussion of how to turn them in. And, apparently, there is no Boxtops for Education Coordinator right now.

Thank you!

Yesterday's Boston Globe City Weekly didn't give any indication of being the last issue, other than Ellen Steinbaum announcing her final "City Type" column on page 7. Page 2 still invites people to send e-mail to ciweek@globe.com and globewatch@globe.com, and page 9 still asks people to send Cambridge, Somerville, and Brookline news items to various reporters.

This Globe page of zone maps for advertisers has one map for "through April 1", and another "effective April 2". So it looks like City Weekly and Globe NorthWest will publish for one more week. After that, Somerville moves into the North Zone, Brookline to the West Zone, and Cambridge to the No Zone, as in "No more local news for you."

The good news for Somerville is that Globe North comes out twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, and that we share it with Medford and Arlington. The bad news is that we also share the zone with about 100 other towns stretching all the way to the New Hampshire-Maine border. How much coverage will we still get?

This Sunday: Temple B'nai Brith Spring Open House: March 29th, 11am-1pm

Looking for a vibrant, egalitarian, and welcoming Jewish community? Temple B'nai Brith is an independent Jewish congregation serving Somerville and surrounding communities for over 100 years. We offer regular Shabbat and alternative worship services, High Holiday services, and other Jewish holiday services; non-members are welcome!

We will hold an open house on Sunday, March 29th from 11am-1pm. Meet congregants, enjoy a light snack, visit the children's school in session, and meet our school staff. TBB is located at 201 Central St, in Somerville, just off Broadway in Winter Hill.

I'm a member of TBB, and I'm on the board of directors and a co-chair of the Membership Committee. I've been a member of TBB since sometime after I moved to Somerville, and really like the place! I'll be off enjoying sunshine in Florida next weekend, but I can otherwise occasionally be found at Shabbat services, other holiday services, or various programs that catch my interest. Feel free to ask me more about Temple B'nai Brith!

www.templebnaibrith.org is our website.

Does anyone of have an operational sewing machine collecting dust that you'd like to unload for an affordable fee? Serge/Sew combo would be extra bonus.
Thanks.

Now you can share Somerville with your friends on Facebook using Give the Gift of Somerville, a new gift application developed by Somerville resident Dev Purkayastha and myself. You can use the app to send Somerville landmarks and icons, from a bathtub Mary, to the Round House, to a parking ticket, and many more to your friends all over the world.

The purpose of the application will be to raise money for a Somerville non-profit, most likely CAAS or the Somerville Homeless Coalition, by inviting local businesses to be added to it in exchange for a donation to the chosen non-profit. I'm still in the planning stages of the financial part, but the application is available for immediate use, with new gift items to be added in the coming weeks.

Please share your feedback and any requests for landmarks, etc. If you have Somerville photos you'd like to donate, I'll add them and give you photo credit. If you're a business owner who wants to get involved, please contact me http://lslapiko.blogspot.com.

Enjoy virtual Somerville!
