CRTs?

I work at BU (and live near Davis), and am about to take 16 CRT monitors -- you know, the huge heavy ones that look like TV sets -- out of commission. They're clunky, probably about 15" large, and use a ton of energy comparatively speaking. Still, I'd feel remiss if I didn't ask: does anyone know of a venue that could use them?

Please, specific venues only. If I can't find specific people who could use them, I'll have them recycled/trashed. It'd be optimal if people could come to BU and get them, but I can also transport some in my car for a good cause.

BU must have a set policy for proper disposal of CRTs. If you give these away, you lose the assurance that they won't end their days in a proper disposal.

Well, you could probably get rid of a handful of them on craigslist through the free section. I'm always able to get rid of monitors that way. But I've never had 16 at a time.

I might be interested in 1 of them, how big are the screens and do they flicker or do anything else that would cause headaches?

The monitors are *probably* 15", and they are CRT, so not great for your vision. We do have one that's larger -- 17"? Or maybe they're 17" and 19". Anyway. If you want one, let me know soon, for tomorrow or Monday I'm calling the recycling guys.

Contact the psychology departments of BU and other universities: research on vision requires CRTs, and creates a demand.

There was a post recently on Somerville freecycle seeking monitors for a classroom doing adult-ed for homeless people, or something along those lines. If you post on freecycle you might be able to find a home for them.

I got a forward of that! Seems like they're all set for CRTs, though they're looking for other computer parts. I'll keep them in mind, thanks.
