I know it's early, but I was wondering if anyone had any leads on a 2+ bedroom apartment for September 1 around the area.

Thanks :-)

Hey Davis Square folks,

I'm a former Davis Square resident living in Chicago while I go to law school, but I'm psyched that I get to come back to Boston for the summer to work in a law firm.

My spouse and I (both 27 and responsible) are looking for a furnished studio or 1BD apartment to sublet for June and July and possibly a week or two on either side depending on how long you would be gone.  Let us know if you have a place available in Davis/Camberville!

We will take care of your place, water plants, put general good vibes back into the DS community, etc.  We are hoping for a place that has AC/cable/internet and some kind of access to laundry.

Let me know if you have any leads (yes, I am all over Craigslist, thanks!).

Thanks so much!!

After years on various waiting lists, I have finally gotten a plot at one of the community gardens! Now, as a complete gardening newbie, I was surprised when all the instructions about on the seed packets I bought (and bought and bought... maybe I got a little carried away?) talk about the "last frost date for my area". I have to be able to predict the future to garden? Zone maps were unhelpfully general.

I called my FIL, an expert gardener, who said that the difference between his place in Conn. and mine in Boston was sufficiently large that I needed to talk to local experts. You all are my experts on local so.... when's the last frost for Davis (as a general rule?).

Thanks

over in powderhouse square, "spun" -- the frozen yogurt place -- is apparently open for business again. i was there a couple days ago (in the cold rain) and plan to go back now that it's actually nicer out. they had just "original" flavor, which is actually my preference, and a whole lot of toppings (i got strawberries and toffee). the proprietor was nice, said basically that he'd taken over running it from the previous person who was a flake, and gave me a lid to keep the rain out of the leftovers of my treat (even the "small" is kinda huge, i'm guessing ten ounces or so?)

Hi DSLJ,

I've got a bunch of free stuff for the taking.  It's all sitting on my front porch available to whomever takes it first.  On Sunday anything remaining will move down to the curb for Somerville Trash to pickup on Monday.  Free Stuff includes:

* 2 CRT VGA Monitors (both working)
* 1 Small (15"?) CRT TV  (works) with remote
* some corner shelving
* wine rack
* humidifier
* HEPA air filter
* 3 clear plastic floor chair covers (to protect your floor from rolling chairs)
* a bunch of cut shelving
* some small pieces of art
* Box Fan
* Floor Mirror
* disposable cameras (unused)
* wicker baskets
* woven wool comforter
* throw blanket
* shower rack
* miscellaneous other stuff

Everything is at 4 Farragut Ave (off broadway near Teele Sq) on left side of the front porch.  Come early, come often, take anything you want.

I saw this advertised on Diesel's bulletin board yesterday. Corvid College, "a college for free people," is offering some interesting classes starting May 15:

http://corvidcollege.wikidot.com/

It looks like a fascinating experiment in alternative pedagogies. It also looks like they're in need of teachers. You can set your own fees and teach whatever you want. ABDs and underemployed intellectuals of Davis Square: come teach! I'd love it if somebody would offer a class on Proust, or Kant, or queer theory.

Late edit: They have teachers, apparently. Though the institutional structure is an open one, so more teachers and classes can be added.

I know many of you have yet to attend one of our Burren DS meetups because of pre-existing conditions (non-health related). For those of you that have a class or some other commitment on Tuesdays, the April meetup will be on a Wednesday this month. Also, I'd like to see if Wednesday nights will better for talking since open mic night gets a bit loud.

The next meetup will be Wednesday April 14th starting at 7pm in the back room. Mark it on your calendars now and, as usual, I'll send out reminders a week before and a day before.

Hi everyone,

I'm moving and have a bunch of large furniture items, practical and decorative things to purge.

Stop by 95 Electric Ave (Teele Square), third floor TOMORROW, SATURDAY APRIL 3, 3-5pm

I don't have a full list but some things include:
- chest of drawers
- vintage television cabinet
- loads of plates, cups, glasses, serving bowls,
- pots and pans,
- coffee makers, toaster oven, other small kitchen appliances
- linens (napkins, placemats, sheets, towels, maybe some blankets)
- probably cleaning supplies & hardware items
- misc electronics (printer, scanner, dvd players)
- some framed pictures

Probably alot more.

Most, if not everything, will be "pay what you can"
The main point is getting rid of it!

Larger pieces can be arranged to be moved out on Monday, April 5, and I might post another announcement here if there is still stuff to go then.

Not on internet very much right now, so you may not get a reply from me. Stop by anyway! It's supposed to be gorgeous tomorrow.

I just move to Davis, literally just a few days ago, and the first thing I can do is do something for somebody else !

Late last night I walked into the ATM and found a machine beeping at me 'Would you like another transaction?'  Well, being an honest guy I said, 'No'.  But when the machine gave me the card back I had no idea what to do with it (after standing around for a few minutes in case someone came running back to get their card).

And being new to Davis, it wasn't clear to me where to take it.  That's where a Davis friend of mine told me to join and post here.

So here's the Challenge questions . . .
  1. What's the name on the card ?
  2. What's the number ?  Please don't confirm the security number on the back.  If this is you, though, you know I already know your card number.
  3. Which ATM did you leave the card in (left or right) ?
  4. What was my last girlfriend's name ?
  5. What did I eat for lunch today (please be specific) ?
If you can tell me 3-out-of-5, then I'll give you the card.  If you can tell me all 5, I'm just going to give you the card because you've totally freaked me out with your mental powers.

If it's you but the way this site works makes it risky to answer the above, then let's find a more secure way to get in touch.

Assuming this system will either direct replies to me and / or tell me how to get them once I hit 'Submit'.

Hey all, Long time lurker- first time poster :D
Wouldn't you know it's cause I need something.

Are there any *strong* young people who are available on the evening of Thursday April 8th?
I am looking for One or Two person(s) to help me move a 7(ish) foot couch from the back of a truck bed up to the second floor of my apartment to-be (my friends already live there). The tricky part is that to get to the door the couch must be lifted over the banister at the top.

the apartment is on Highland near the fire station (or near somerville hospital), about a 10 minute walk from Davis or Porter Squares. I should arrive between 6:30-7:30...or 8 (driving from CT, traffic might mess us up).

A token payment will be provided.
Job given to First commenter. (address to be shared via email)
This seems way less intimidating than craig's list!!
~Beth :)
