I got this announcement from the Somerville Arts Council e-mail list. Take it with however many kg of sodium chloride that you prefer:

From: edgecity0@gmail.com

Hey all, so that Fantastic Amazing Astounding Traveling circus which I announced as being on monday evening is actually on Tuesday evening.

Come one come all to see the first performance of the soon-to-be Internationally Famous Flaming Deathwish Itinerant Family Circus, lead by Mr. Crazy Lady and her trained fleas. Hailing from the greater Providence area (extending as far north as Baffin Island, and as far south as Easter Island, though performers are neither puffins nor catholics), Flaming Deathwish will perform a number of simultaneously death-defying and family-friendly stunts, in series and parallel. Boston is their first stop on a nationwide schoolbus tour on which they aim to inspire chaos and liberation at every possible juncture.

Flaming Deathwish will be joined by the ever expanding Fantastic Non-Stick Antiperspirant Russian Nonsemble, lead by siberian ex-patriot Fluffsky the spectacled polar bear.

The party starts Tuesday, sept 7 at 6pm in Davis Square Plaza, in front of the JP Licks. Donations to the circus tour gas fund are encouraged but in no way required.

I called up the sewing machine store in Davis looking for this:

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=75942&catid=142316&trx=CRT-PLST&trxp1=17008&trxp2=75942

but they do not have it. I don't want to pay $$ to have it shipped, when it really only costs a few dollars. Does anyone know where I could get one locally? It doesn't have to be this brand, just something that will remove the pilling from normal fabric (not just sweaters).

Thanks!

Looks like we have another hyperlocal news site to compete with Wicked Local (Somerville Journal) and the Somerville News and Boston.com. It's called PostSomerville.com.

But I can't find any information whatsoever about who has put this site together, or whether it is part of a larger chain. Anyone know anything about it at all?

(Rumor has it that AOL Patch.com is also coming to Somerville soon, but it isn't here yet.)

Does anyone know what is going on with Banjo's Roast Beef restaurant, in the former KFC at Mass. Ave. and Walden Street?

It never seems to be open when I walk or ride by it. A sign on the front says that is is temporarily closed for renovations, which I find odd since it opened just seven months ago.

Back in January when I went in to have my teeth cleaned at Dental Services PC, my hygienist pretty muchly strong-arming me into getting X-rays that I did not want to pay for, and wouldn't really have wanted even if they were covered by insurance. The only explanation given was that this was a really good dentist's office and not some walk-in place that would just do whatever you asked, that it was important to them to monitor the health of their patients. Which evidently means annual X-rays.

When I talked to my periodontist about it, he said that he thought that was completely inappropriate and that you always have the right to refuse X-rays, and once you say no it should not be raised again as a question.

So, today when I called the office (http://dentalservicespc.com/) to see about rescheduling an appointment, I also asked whether the yearly X-ray policy is for real. Well, it turns out that it is indeed *required* for all patients there. Or so I was told by the receptionist who picked up.

So, even though it's only 6 months since my last X-ray, I canceled my appointment, and I will instead get my teeth cleaned at my periodontist's office (http://www.cambridgeperio.com/). There, I know that there is at least one doctor (Alan DerKazarian) with a healthy respect for radiation and for patient wishes regarding minimizing exposure.

And if it did, what was it like? Sadly, I had to be somewhere else at 6 pm. (I did see the contra dance, still going after 9 pm)
