The Pets in Need Silent Auction is the premiere charity event in the greater Boston area supporting a non-profit, no-kill, all-volunteer pet rescue in Somerville, MA. Whether you are starting your holiday shopping or just looking to help surrendered and homeless pets in your local community, the Pets In Need Silent Auction is a great way for you to show your support for a neighborhood rescue.

Items to be auctioned include a pair of round trip tickets anywhere in the Continental United States (donated by AirTran), autographed sports memorabilia from the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and others, artwork and crafts from local artisans, merchandise from area boutiques, gift certificates from your favorite restaurants and much more. Enjoy tasty food from local eateries, a cash bar and an 80s cover band!

For more information and to see a complete list of items up for auction, visit: http://www.petsinneedanimalrescue.org/silentauction.html

EDIT: We will only be accepting cash and checks at the auction. If you'd like to make a donation to our organization with a credit card, there is a PayPal link on the silent auction website (see above). Thank you for your support!

I walked over to Good Food Cafe at noon, when they should have been open according to their web site. They weren't, and there were painters and other workers inside taking the place apart.

Their phone number (617) 876-2450 is disconnected, which would seem to make it hard to run a catering business either.

Anyone know what's going on?

(My previous post on this subject from February.)

There's now a web site up to help find the dog, Marisol who was lost on November 2 in the Fells Reservation in Medford after being attacked by a pitt bull:

She loves peanut butter and comes when called by her name. Call 617-383-9228 if you see her.

Clearly I must get my roommate to join LJ. She's asked me to broadcast this, so broadcasting away:

Hello from the Groundwork Somerville SoilCycle team!

We're writing to inform you of an exciting upcoming opportunity to expand your composting skills and jump aboard with vermicomposting!!! This workshop will provide you with everything you need to take home a "kitchen scrap-ready" worm bin and will provide you with a group technical assistance session to answer any questions you may have about beginning to compost in your home.

When: Tuesday, Nov. 16th, 5:30-7pm
Where: The Groundwork Somerville Offices, 21 Properzi Way, Somerville
(next door to Hemlock Ink, just off Somerville Ave.)

Cost: $75 for the first member of a household, $5 for each additional household member
***This workshop is geared at adults, children over age 10 are welcome to join in the fun for FREE***

Your Vermicomposting Workshop Fee Includes:
1) a full hands-on tutorial about building and maintaining your bin,
2) a copy of the "SoilCycle Guide to Home Worm Composting"
3) Red Wiggler Worms harvested on the spot!
4) compost castings to jumpstart your happy worm environment
5) materials and tools needed to start your bin

While $75 may seem like a lot, it's actually a significant discount from the prices you might pay online - and with us, you get the first-hand knowledge to set yourself up for success! Plus you're supporting a great youth-led business and an awesome local non-profit.

Space is limited. Pre-registration and payment required. Please respond to this email to sign up. Deadline: Friday, Nov. 12th.
