This Thursday's SomerMovie in Davis Square: Rushmore

According to a city press release, this Thursday's outdoor movie in Seven Hills Park will be Rushmore:

The film centers on Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman), a precocious and eccentric 15 year-old, who is both Rushmore's most extracurricular and least scholarly student; Herman Blume (Bill Murray), a disillusioned industrialist who comes to admire Max; and Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams), a widowed first grade teacher who becomes the object of both Max's and Herman's affection.

This was the winner of a Viewer's Choice poll, which I guess was distrubuted at earlier movie showings. (But I never saw a ballot when I watched Toy Story 3 three weeks ago.)

Pan-Mass Challenge Benefit at Flatbread on August 23

Love pizza, but hate cancer? I thought so. We have so much in common. Let's celebrate our similarities by convening at Flatbread Company in Davis on Tuesday, August 23 (tomorrow) to address both issues. Eat pizza, fight cancer. This benefit lasts all day, so join us from 11:30 am through 11:30 pm. Proceeds will benefit four riders of the Pan-Mass Challenge, a ride across Massachusetts that raises money for the Jimmy Fund. Anyone know how to weld?

One of my housemates has a very unusual repair project that he's stymied on: an old arcade game that you play by pedaling an exercise-bike-type thing. One of the pedals is loose, making the game unplayable. A previous owner seems to have tried to 'weld' it in place with JB Weld, but that didn't work. A bike repairperson friend tells me that the crank arm is broken and that I need a used crank arm and cotter to fix it. The other option is to weld the sucker into place, which may hold, I'm not sure.



Not having repaired a bike before, I'm seeing if anyone here can either help or just weld.... or knows anyone who can. I can't exactly move the game, so they'd have to come over to help.

i'm moving (i know, who isn't :D ) and have stuff to sell!

first! a double-bed-size futon and frame. the futon has a washable purple cover, and has been living in a pet- and smoke-free home. (also bedbug-free.) the frame folds into thirds for ease of carrying, and also so you can fold it up into a loveseat or pull it out to make a bed. $20! (see it on craigslist)

second! a nice sturdy ikea entertainment unit deep enough for a crt tv. (which is what i have.) i can't remember the name of the style but i do know they don't make it any more. it's 57" wide x 23.5" deep x 18.5" high. it has a big drawer with two sections with movable dividers for dvds and videotapes and stuff, and three cubbies for dvd players and vcrs and wiis and whatever. there's also a panel that folds down to hide your peripherals, but i've left it up. i love it a lot but i can't take it with me because it won't fit in my new apartment. $30! (see it on craiglist)

Groupon running out--anyone want it?

I bought 3 Groupons for a Segway ride/tour of Boston with the expectation of taking people out on the town when they came to visit me. I tried to use them up this weekend, but my husband came up lame with a bum ankle, so my friend and I went without him. His loss is your gain. Ever wanted to try a Segway? First affirmative response will get my Groupon code for a 2 hour Segway experience. I know expired Groupons are worth face value, but I don't see myself using that last slot before the 27th.
