Hi Davis neighbors! I don't live in the Davis area anymore (have crossed over the river to Boston, alas) but the foodie circle in Davis I'm sure can help me out here.

I am looking for food-grade citric acid (Fruit Fresh being one of them) you can use to preserve tomatoes in hot water canning. Does anyone know if Tags has this specifically or if another store in the area does?

All I have near me is an Economy True Value, though they do have canning supplies I don't believe they have this specific item.

(And I know I could use lemon juice but I am not sure I'd want lemony tomatoes.)

[edit] This community is THE BEST. Thank you so much for your help!

Did anyone else around Davis just feel something earthquake-like? Max Pack construction? Huh?

eta An earthquake in Virginia, being reported as 5.8 and 5.9
And now I know about earthquake.usgs.gov

I was in the new Panera Bread in Porter Square and the manager asked me if there are any nearby non-profits that would like regular donations of their leftovers at the end of the day.

Any suggestions? I will pass them along.

big bunch of assorted new bicycle spokes, no idea what lengths or gauges though some are bundled together and presumably alike. haven't had to build a wheel in prolly 12 years and they're doing no good for nobody sitting in a greasy box on my shelf. free to anyone who can put them to good (or at least better) use.

EDIT - also free: bike tire chain, like for traction on ice.  srsly.

i s'pose it's easier and more reversable than studding the knobs. )
