Update: And Somerville wins AGAIN! Thank you for playing . . .

I've been delayed this morning by prosaic automotive issues but -- with your help -- nothing can stop Somervilles's march to alt-rock domination.

Please tune in to WFNX 101.7 FM at 9 a.m., then
wait to hear both songs play and for voting to be opened (voting earlier doesn’t count),
and then VOTE for Mayor Joe’s awesome song, "Once in a Lifetime" by the Talking Heads . A citywide email with the song choice will go out as soon as voting opens.

You may vote by Text, Phone, or Facebook.

Here’s how to vote:

Before 9:30 am:

1) Text the Word WFNX and your song choice to 22122

2) Call 781-595-WFNX.

3) Comment with your choice on the WFNX Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/1017wfnx

The Massachusetts Commissioner of Education has recommended that the Somerville Progressive Charter School's application be rejected by the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Board will vote on February 28.

This charter school proposal was the subject of a very contentious debate here in [livejournal.com profile] davis_square two months ago.

Oh great and wise Davis Square LJ-

Does any one have any suggestions for where to buy paper lanterns? We're thinking the larger sizes (16", 20", 24") not the smaller stringed ones. I have found them online for quiet cheap, but the shipping ends up being more than the lanterns when all is said and done. I've done a quick search and it doesn't appear that Michael's, Joann's, or ACMoore carries them. I know Chinatown will have them, and will probably make a trip there this weekend, but wanted to see if anyone else had any suggestions? In the past we have gotten them at China Fair, but they don't have them anymore.

Any suggestions?

According to the Porter Square Neighborhood Association mailing list, Pier One will close and a Walgreen's will move into both Pier One's space and the vacant ex-Blockbuster Video above it.

(Is there anything at all you can buy at Walgreen's that you can't just as easily buy at the CVS across the street?)
