Hi folks-

I've had a plumbing emergency and need to find a one-month (September) rental for my 3 tenants (all women in their 20s) ASAP. Does anyone have leads on an apartment in the Somerville/Cambridge area that might be a good fit? 2 bedrooms is fine, a large 1-bedroom might be OK.

Please let me know if you have any ideas! I'm desperate and feeling a little crazy. Thanks!

Hello all,

Got a knock on the door from my roommate this morning and he informed me that the bathroom has exploded. Sure enough, I look in there and the bathtub is filled with murky water and there's water all over the floor. Our landlord had told him on the phone that it was a clog and he was bringing someone in right away. The dude, looks like a maintenance man, shows up, but apparently it's some sort of major clog.

Our landlord told me he needed to bring an actual plumber in and it would be 2-3 days before we could use the bathroom again. I've found the section in MA law that says the landlord must provide a usable toilet and shower, but I don't know what my course of action should be from here on out. Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Just got an email from the city about street closing on Holland Street due to construction (contents below).

Is this "raised crosswalk" like a bridge across Holland Street?? I'm having trouble picturing such a thing. Has anyone seen a city proposal or other documentation online?

On the other hand, I have imagined a sort of "skyway" bridge to connect the bike path from behind the RIX to behind the T station at Holland street. That would be awesome.

This is Carlene Campbell-Hegarty from the City of Somerville, with important information about construction in Davis Square. Weather permitting, on Sunday, August 19th beginning at approximately 2:00 a.m. and continuing through Wednesday, August 22nd, MassDOT will be installing a raised crosswalk on Holland Street at the MBTA station. During this period of time, Buena Vista Parking Lot will remain open. However, no vehicular traffic will be allowed on Holland Street from Winter Street to Dover Street.

There is a Japanese grocery place called Miso a few block up Mass Ave from Porter Square.  The sign says they do sushi and bento boxes, so I  went in to see if this meant they also do onigiri.  They do.  Flavor include spicy tuna, cooked salmon, umeboshi, and konbu.  They were mostly out by six o'clock (open til eight).

I bought a few pieces to try.  The ratio of rice to non-rice filling is very high, much more so than Kotobukiya's.  But I'm inclined to hope they can be persuaded to increase the non-rice proportions.
