Hi HONK! fans-

It's that time of year again.  The Seventh HONK! Festival of Activist Street Bands is nigh upon us, and we are looking for places for about 400 musicians to sleep!  The festival will take place October 5th, 6th and 7th centered in Davis Square.  (Check out the schedule as it unfolds at honkfest.org.)

We need places for groups of all sizes--singles, doubles, triples, quadruples, and yes, even those places where 25 spirited horn players can rest their weary heads.  Priority is to find places in convenient proximity to Davis Square and/or the Red Line (although this is not a requirement), and musicians tend to prefer to stay with at least one fellow traveler.  Some will arrive Thursday, some Friday, some Saturday; they will all depart on Monday.

As you likely know, HONK! is possible only with the extraordinary amount of community support it gets from people like you.  We have the good fortune to be part of a neighborhood which values creativity, spontaneity and independence. Visiting musicians have been deeply moved by the openness and generosity they have found here.  And now I'm asking if you might be able to open your doors and take them in.

Can you help?  Please let me know at housing@honkfest.org if you can host a musician or two (or 10), your address and telephone number, what sleeping arrangements you are able to offer, and if you have any cats or dogs.  Your kindness will be recorded in the Great Book of HONK!

I thank you, the street bands thank you, and the ever-growing community of HONK! fans thank you!

Trudi Cohen, HONK!

P.S. Our volunteer coordinator adds "Your friends and neighbors can probably regale you with wonderful stories about how much fun it is to host visiting HONK! musicians. They are not demanding guests, will sleep most anywhere, and are hardly at your house. Since the number of bands is more than we have had in the past, we're looking especially hard for additional hosts. Thanks!"
