I have an apartment lined up in Somerville near Teele Square, and now I'm looking for one or two roommates. The apartment is either a two-bedroom with a living room and a dining room, or a three-bedroom with a living-and-dining room, depending on how we choose to arrange it and how many ways we want to split the rent.

Rent & utilities: Rent will be $945/person if there are two of us or $630/person if there are three of us. Utilities are extra; gas and electricity average $160/month total according to the numbers I was given. I have no idea yet how much to expect internet to cost; I'm moving from out of state.

Location: It looks pretty transit-friendly and walkable; walkscore.com gives it an 82 ("Very Walkable"). There's a supermarket in easy walking distance, and a Zipcar lot nearby. I believe there's one parking spot behind the apartment, but it's first come first served. (I don't have a car, so I didn't pay as much attention to what they said about the parking spot.)

The apartment: There's a washer and dryer in the basement. The apartment's floors are wood, and the kitchen is biggish. One bedroom has two closets and is a good size for a full bed. The room that could be bedroom or living room has no closet but is bigger. The apartment is on the first floor of a three-unit building and has a front and back porch. No smoking.

Pets: I have one cat, and I need him to be the only pet. He likes being around his people but isn't much of a lap cat. He has all his claws, and I trim them regularly. He doesn't use them on people, but I haven't managed to completely train him not to try to sharpen his claws on the furniture. :-( I don't think he'll damage anything, but I thought I'd better mention it in case you have an heirloom sofa or something.

Me, your potential housemate: I'm geeky and Pagan and poly. I'm queer-friendly. I'm a once-and-future morris dancer. I'm not interested in recreational drugs or alcohol; I don't mind if you do them in moderation, but I'm not comfortable with any illegal substances in the apartment. I have a ton of books, some of which will be on shelves in the shared parts of the apartment. (You're welcome to read them too.) I don't like having a TV on all the time and would prefer not to have one in our shared space at all, though having a TV isn't a dealbreaker for me. I'm friendly but go through introverted phases. I have a sweetie who will visit sometimes, but you don't have to worry that he'll be over all the time--he's allergic to my cat. :-) I have some tendencies toward clutter, but I'm usually pretty good about picking up after myself in shared space.

I'd like us to discuss chores and figure out something that works for both/all of us--letting things slide until one person gets fed up and cleans it all doesn't work well for me.

Timing: I'm moving in a week before the end of October; you can move in any time after that. The landlord will need to approve you too.

If you're interested, send me a PM with your email address and tell me a bit about yourself.

For those of you who may not have heard, the City of Cambridge has recently filed a lawsuit in their second attempt to shut down Uber (the smartphone driven on-demand livery service). You can read more about the lawsuit and previous legal action (which was overturned by the State) here. I personally strongly oppose this lawsuit. I am an occasional Uber customer and do not want this innovative service taken away in the name of "consumer" protection (which is a transparent attempt at protecting local cabbies from competition).

This legal action was initiated by the City Manager on advice of the city legal department and consumer protection bureau. At least one City Councillor (Minka vanBeuzekom) opposes the lawsuit and she has added an agenda item to tonight's City Council meeting to discuss the lawsuit. Her goal is to urge the rest of City Council to oppose the lawsuit and she has invited anyone with an interest in this issue to attend and have their voices heard before the council.

The council meeting begins today at 5:30pm. For more information, please read http://checkthis.com/cjg5. This issue impacts consumers in the entire state and not just consumers within the city of Cambridge.
