Does anyone know what is going on with what smells like a major natural gas leak in Somerville this morning?

The smell is very noticeable outdoors in the "Patch" neighborhood (MaxPack to Cedar street) and when we called it in, there apparently had been a number of other calls already, with the Fire Department heading out in force to the DPW yard.

An hour later we can still hear sirens going north of here, businesses are responding (it looked like the Royal White laundry had gotten everyone out of their building and had an NSTAR truck out front), and the air is still thick with the smell outside.

Winds are from the north, so I'm suspecting something up that way.

I noticed it! I was on Holyoke and Elm St and I smelled it right away. It was so strong. Then I walked out onto Elm Street and saw 3 fire engines on the street (two in front of the Kennedy School, another in front of Porter Square, and another on Mass Ave on the other side of the square).

Yikes!

Wait a sec. From Kennedy School to MaxPack seems way too far to be one incident.

Hope they don't shut down the T

I definitely noticed it when I was driving down Cedar Street this morning around 8:30am. Scary stuff! Anyone have more info yet?

My employer (in Cambridge, between Harvard and Porter) informs me that NSTAR is venting gas lines in the area this morning. Odor was strong when I got into work (just before 9) but has gotten less noticeable since then.

Eh Oh

Unrelated, but, this is eerie. I now live approximately 1000 miles away from Davis Sq., but there was a gas leak in my new neighborhood today, too.

I noticed a strong smell of gas this morning on the Alewife Linear Park/Somerville Community Path between Mass. Ave. and Alewife in Cambridge. It was strongest near the end of Jackson St.
