for sale: 1963 Schwinn Spitfire

The serial number indicates it was made in 1963. Original paint, original decals, seat, etc. Wire basket attached to front.

I would like to get $350 for it, which is less than I've been seeing them online (in this condition they seem to go for about $500, but I'd like to sell it fast). The bike is in excellent condition, a year ago I sat down and went over every inch of it, dealing with rust bits and minor repairs. I need more exercise, so I want to sell this and get a more modern bike for extended rides (one, specifically, that I can put my wide gel seat on; this bike is so perfectly preserved I couldn't bring myself to start taking it apart).

The tires are a little soft right now because it was sitting around all winter. I had borrowed my roommate's pump, so if you want to ride it away from here you'd need to bring a pump. that's part of why I'm offering it here, to well, the community, before putting it on craigslist, and for a little less than it's worth, in the hope someone who might never get a bike like this could maybe do so. If I had more space, I'd keep the thing just for those amazing classic lines. But it's a very big art piece, and it deserves to be ridden.

Do you know the height? Or at least, what size person would find it usable to ride?

the seat can go from about 26" to about 36". It will need a little work on the clamp, which is rusted (it works, just needs a hard twist, could be replaced), if you were going to take it above 33" or so, just to be *really* secure.

I wonder if a bike shop like Open Bicycle or the Dutch Bicycle Shop would be interested in buying it, if you don't find a taker here. Both Somerville-based and run by good people.
