A largish room on the second floor of our co-op -- right in the center of Davis -- will be available June 1, but we're flexible for the right person! (Rent is $650; shared groceries and CSA, gas and electricity, and Internet come to about $200 a month.)
About you:
Eager to be part of building a community with us, interested in sharing food and cooking together, happy to participate in house meetings where we will plan and create our awesome home, progressive, open, communicative, and generally fun and fabulous! Bonus points for: previous group housing experience, playing instruments, gardening, activism, speaking another language, quirky/interesting hobbies you can teach us about, and inviting funky people to the social events we'll organize in our home.
Sound interesting? E-mail 14herbertstreet at gmail to tell us about yourself and how you envision contributing to our home.
About us:
We are four (temporarily 5) groovy people in our 20s and 30s: lawyer and computer programmer, urban planner, book editor, psychology student, and preschool teacher. Two of us are a couple. We are bike commuters, cooks, dancers, cat-lovers, travelers, community builders, chocolate chip cookie makers, bread bakers, live-lightly-on-the-earthers, mostly vegetarian, queer friendly, activists, social innovators, non-profit types, non-tv-watchers, urban homesteaders, big laughers, foreign language speakers, and hubs of social activity.
About our house:
Our home and community are about sharing -- sharing food and cooking together, sharing chores that keep our house beautiful, sharing friends and social communities, etc. We're not a formal co-op (no set rules), which makes it more important that we're all on the same page.
The house itself is beautiful and super convenient! We're half a block from Diesel, 20 feet from the farmers' market, one block from the bike trail and the T stop, two blocks from Pemberton Market (organic groceries), and a block from the fabulous center of Davis (Somerville Theatre, music in the square, JP Licks, etc).
We have a small back yard with a firepit and a garden, and a beautiful back porch. There's a free washer and dryer in the basement. The house has a nice bay window in the living room and is all hardwood floors. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all large, and the kitchen has a dishwasher and a new gas stove. We live with a wonderful cat named Leo. Our house is a smoke-free environment.
We host a weekly potluck/salad party, open to all our friends, acquaintances, and former housemates. Other times we host Spanish-speaking chefs, pasta-eating solo-practice lawyers, gangs of beginning Scottish fiddlers, and mostly-amateur filmmakers.
The house is three stories, with three bedrooms on the second floor and two on the third, and two full bathrooms.
