MBTA police and DHS are performing security theater this morning in both Davis and Porter. At Porter, they totally randomly selected the one black guy from a large commuter crowd. Yay for America!

They seem to be performing it in front of both entrances to Davis now, not just the one I don't use.

I was looking for like a hat or an open instrument case or something but I don't think they were collecting money for their performance. And they were a lot bigger and more armed than I was so I figured if they misinterpreted coinage tossed their way things could go very badly.

I don't like this kind of theatre very much.

On April 15th you can say that? Have you no sense of irony, sir?

That's "Madam" to you, and my sense of irony hadn't woken up and realized what the date was. LOL!

Might it be related to the Tea Party protests planned today?

(not that it seems terribly productive anyway, just wondering)

Those were yesterday, unless they're doing two days in a row and failed to mention it :)

Asking why a tax day protest would be on April 14th and not April 15th would be much too sensible, wouldn't it. :)

In this case it has a sensible answer: Sarah Palin was in town on the 14th, so they had a rally for her visit.

Their final stop/rally is today, in D.C.

for Palin's visit, really infuriates me. She is a concentrate of all that is screwed up with America.

Just remember: "AM I FREE TO GO, OFFICER?" Porter's not that far away.

The OP sez, both Davis and Porter. The walking-to-Porter bit has been my mental fallback (which hasn't come in handy because I'm a harmless-looking Caucasian woman), and it pisses me off a bit that they're angling to force people to undergo the searches by doing the two stations in tandem.

Though, of course, that makes it *less* of a theatre... but random searches always are.

Oh, duh, my brain no worky. I guess one could continue on to Harvard if Porter was a no-go, but really, what are the chances of being selected at both stations? I guess higher for some than for others.

I had to walk from Arlington to Boylston after declining a search last Fall. Take that, BPD!

You can always catch a bus to Sullivan or Lechmere! :) The 89 goes from the Davis T to Sullivan.

That's a very short walk...

Never said it wasn't. I bow to your obviously superior walking prowess.

(And *must* you always put the first sentence of your comment in the subject line? Smacks of willful eccentricity...)

My fallback has been either walking to Porter or busing to um, well, crap, Porter. But I guess taking a bus to Alewife or Harvard would work, too.

Read "DHs @ Porter & Davis" and wondered, what is David Ortiz doing around here?

What if we ask if we can search the officers? Of course, they're welcome to decline.

Did anyone take pics?

If you see cops racially profiling people, why not take the time to report it (other than on LJ)?
