the roofing contractor i hired almost 5 years ago is declining to honor his warranty: he installed a drip edge badly and it's channeling water *inside* my exterior wall, rather than *away* from it.  what with all the rain the past 4 weeks, there's been a bunch of damage to a wall and floor in my house.  my first inclination is to file a dispute with the Better Business Bureau, but that's mostly because i'm not sure what other options i have.  if the dude just came by and stopped the water pouring in whenever it rains, i'd cut my losses and let the damage slide, but he won't even return my calls, which makes me want to wring him for the repair cost.

anyone feel like sharing their experiences resolving a situation like this ?  got any advice ?

and, can anyone recommend a roofing contractor ?  (if you say "squillante", i'm going to give you some bad news...)

thanks !

No help n finding a contractor, but perhaps in getting help dealing with the aftermath of this one...

Go to the website for the state office of consumer affairs (http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=ocahomepage&L=1&L0=Home&sid=Eoca) and in the list of online services right at the top of the page, the last one on the right is a downloadable PDF for filing a complaint against a home improvement contractor.

We started at that web-site, too, then spent $900 hundred bucks in legal fees to Bill White (attorney in Somerville, and alderman-at-large, btw) to help us file all the appropriate paperwork and to send notices to Robert Buitta—the contractor-dude who split with our $7,000.

We got the $7,000 back but not the $900. I'm not sure if we really *had* to do it with a lawyer. White said that you have to get everything just right on the paper-work or else you never get your money, and that's why we needed to have him do it (plus, you know us, we suck at getting paperwork in on time for shit).

Anyway, you might give him a call and have an initial-consult meeting to see if you think it would help. I think you have several grand of damage to your walls at this point (they count the cost of the damage on assuming you pay someone else to do the work).

No advice, but I'm curious, who's the offending contractor?

besides doing my porch, the folks at stealth (stealthconstruction.net) also repaired the chunk of flat roof that sprung a leak a couple of years ago and did well with it.

i've got roofing guys i use for the slate, here, but i'm not sure if they are specializing in slate or if they also do generic roofing. kevin menzes, triple m contracting.
