I was just at the Market Basket in Union Square; they had apparently just taken delivery of 2000 gallons of Market Basket Spring Water (the announcement said 'We just spoke to the regional manager and we're going to have plenty of water as long as this emergency continues.' So I asked at the front register when I got up there what that meant, and they told me they can get up to 10000 gallons a day if needed, though they don't expect to need quite that much after today; he estimated that was about what they'd sell by close).

They are selling them for 50 cents a gallon.

it was also cold and i was tempted to crack open a gallon in the parking lot and chug.

50 cents a gallon? That rocks that they didn't jack up the price.

Medford High School is on the #134 bus line - a schlep from Somerville.

221 Concord Ave in Belmont (Belmont High School) might be easier for Somerville folks to reach. Bus #74 from Harvard Square goes there, and it's also an easy bike ride from Davis Square (via Danehy Park in Cambridge).

However, I can't tell from the news story whether this was today or tomorrow.

At least in Medford, it's also tomorrow, though after 3PM so as not to disrupt school.

Shaws in Porter Square also just got a shipment and it was moving as fast as they could put the gallon jugs on the shelf. The place was reminiscent of the night before a big snowstorm.

Imagine the scene...

If there was an actual emergency and an critical resource was involved (I know, water is critical, but there is plenty of it, just boil or disinfect it). With all the guns in circulation, I would predict lotsa shootings to grab the goodies. Civilized MA, I suppose...

"Civilized" MA doesn't have lots of guns.

Shaw's in East Cambridge, along McGrath Hwy, had some water bottles this afternoon. The aisle where it usually resides was empty, but they had put out special pallets by the entrance. It's a quick ride from Davis on either the #88 or #87 busses to Lechmere.

Just walk around the corner from the bus stop into the parking lot and store.

Johnny's Foodmaster on 16 in Somerville has a bunch of the 24 packs. Limit 3 per family. I picked up two for my classroom tomorrow. The kids will revolt without the water fountain.

EDIT: It's 5 bucks a pack

Who needs water?

There's still plenty of beer in the liquor stores...

Bud Light is basically water. Or that's how I've rationalized it.
