Hey, I'm on a roll posting here, so I figured I'd continue.
We were offering a cool old vintage fan at our yard sale, and it didn't sell, so I opted to "rescue" it. I actually really love it and am glad it didn't sell. It's a behemoth of a thing - 4 feet tall on two "legs" and heavy. It works, but needs some repairs (probably a good cleaning, tune-up, and it's missing a bit of hardware and a part is currently held together by rope). I really want to bring it back to life. It would definitely need to be local, since it's so big. Anyone know of a business that might do something like that? Initial googling didn't turn up much...

Thanks!

it's a longshot but i think in union sq, near mcgrath, there is (or maybe used to be?) a place that repaired sewing machines and vacuum cleaners. They might be able to do it?

There's quite a community of makers and DIY folks around here who would probably be up for repairing it, especially if it is old and pretty. :-)

Can't say that I know them by name, though.

Forget the name of the company, but there's a guy at 9 Olive Square (near Union Square in Somerville) who does antique restoration.

I would try the sewing machine/vacuum repair shop in Davis.

Who you want is Village Green Renewal in Brookline-- www.greenbrookline.com (http://www.greenbrookline.com/). It's owned by a guy named Seth Barret who can fix pretty much anything, and is super fastidious and **loves** fixing up old things. He also happens to be a really amazing human being. This is absolutely where you want to take anything old that needs fixing-- he'll make it shine and hum.

I took my 50-year-old fan to Fix Masters in West Roxbury--it got fixed, though it took two tries. fix-masters.com
