Hi all,

I'm relatively new to the area, so I have no idea where I should go to find good jewelry . . . the boy and I are starting to look for engagement rings, and I was wonering if anyone would have some good suggestions for stores nearby. Thanks as always! :)

there's the "jewelry district" in downtown crossing in boston, always good for bargains and bargaining.

I love Florin & Virgil Ghita in the Jewellery Building at Downtown Crossing (333 Washington St., 5th Floor; they're right in front as you get off the elevator).

They're old school jewellers. They can make anything, and they're honest and friendly. I take everything to them; in fact, I have to go pick up a ring they're mending for me.

617-742-2398, tell them Coco sent you!

I got my wedding ring from Jade Moran (http://www.jademoran.com), whom I adore. She has a studio on Highland Ave. and shows up at ArtBeat and the like. And she has pretty jewelry and she's a fun person and she was pretty helpful when I needed to have my ring resized (it was the right size when I got it! but I changed sizes).

i second this recommendation! i have friends who had their rings done by jade as well, and they loved her and loved the rings. she worked individually with them to design the detailing of the rings (so the engagement & wedding ring locked together). as i recall she has a great sample book full of excellent photography of her past custom work so you can get a feel for her style (and yours).

good luck!

Let me add a voice to the chorus telling you to check out the Jewelry Building (and surrounding stores) in Downtown Crossing. Since I don't have a specific store recommendation, I'd say do some comparison shopping--they're willing to haggle, and the prices are very good.

S. Spires on Mass Ave near Porter Square. They do really beautiful, innovative work--very organic and fluid. I *love* their stuff!

If you're looking for something fairly traditional and are concerned about price, I highly recommend the Jewelry Exchange out in Sudbury. I got a solitaire so price was more important to us than style, so the Jewelry Exchange was a good place for us. Since we went fairly traditional, I can't really comment on what they might have if you're doing something not as traditional.

Congratulations and good luck!

I tentatively second the recommendation of Spires - I got my ring from Spires & Somes, and think Spires was the main jewelry designer at the time. :)

Okay, it's not really local, and you're probably looking for something a little more traditional, but... href="http://www.titaniumarts.com/pages/rings/rings.html?content=1">One-Off Titanium Arts () is where we got our wedding rings.

Congratulations on your engagement!
