short for traffic detail, usually. but sometimes events, special security, etc. It's usually done as overtime work and for some reason it really pisses some ppl off that cops have the opportunity to work more for more pay.
It's great when cops (or anyone) has an opportunity to work for extra pay.
I think the concern comes in when they try to monopolize that opportunity by pushing through laws that state that only police officers can do certain work.
This. And hence driving up the price needed to pay for said detail. Where a civilian might be ok with being paid $20/hour to stand at a street corner drinking coffee, the police force demands at least $80/hour.
