I'm getting kind of tired of having a barren living room so i'd like to fill it with comfy couches. I'm absolutely paranoid of bed bugs so I'd really prefer not to craiglist anything upholstered (although we'll buying as much of the rest of the stuff used) We checked out ikea but in the sub-500 price range for fullsized sofas there was nothing remotely comfortable. Bob's discount couldn't be further from the name.
I'm from PA and we have legions of factory direct/cheap furniture chains down there (The Dump, unclaimed freight, etc.) but up here...not so much? Anytime I search for factory direct or wholesale furniture near here I get the sketchiest websites. I'm willing to do southern NH if there's really nothing in MA as long as there's a place willing to deliver to Somerville for a somewhat reasonable rate. Any recs?

Date: 2010-05-22 02:40 pm (UTC)What about Eddie's Furniture in Somerville (http://www.yelp.com/biz/eddies-furniture-somerville)? I have never been there, but the yelp reviews are mostly good and they seem to deliver.

Date: 2010-05-22 06:03 pm (UTC)We got our sofa at Boston Interiors in Brookline (or several other places in the area.) It wasn't cheap but it was on the lower end of the furniture price spectrum for decent stuff. And I liked their fairly low-key, relatively helpful sales style. They also have an outlet in Hanover.
The other place worth checking is the "fourth floor" at the Crate and Barrel place on Mass Ave. It may be gone since they consolidated their two stores, but it used to be an outlet of sorts, with slightly better prices. It was seriously on the top floor of the building, not well advertised.

Bonus tip: you can rent a pickup truck or van for a day for less than the cost of delivery.

Circle Furniture has an outlet store on Concord Ave near Huron Village with a lot of leather furniture.
I'll also give a thumbs up to Eddie's, Sunshine Lucy's, & Metamorphosis. The selection changes frequently, so stop in often.
Have the places in Gardener started carrying anything but very traditional designs? My taste tends toward contemporary and I wasn't too impressed with their selection--though it was a few years ago.
