Does anyone know a good place to score a backpack? I've tried City Sports in Porter, Target, Micro Center, and a few other places, but I haven't been oh-so-impressed with anything I've seen so far. I need something to hold a couple of textbooks, my laptop (14"), a bunch of toys (digital camera, iPod, cell), and other random bits and pieces.

Normally I would just order something online, but I need it by Tuesday. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

Seems like Jansport would make what you're looking for.

Have you tried REI or EMS? you might want to look at TJ Maxx or marshalls or something, since it isn't really back to school season.

Good luck!

There's an EMS in Harvard Sq. (Brattle Sq., really, but I don't know anybody who calls it that anymore.) The nearest REI is in North Reading and requires a car. The H^2 Newbury Comics also has a selection of backpacks and messenger bags (including Timbuk2 messenger bags, which are nice).

Actually, there is an REI right at the Fenway Stop of the Green Line (D, I think). It is pretty big, and every time I have been their, the people have been really nice.

They often have things at the stores that they don't have on the website, or at least that was what I noticed the last time I was looking for some gear (about 2 years ago).

Second that. If you can live with a messenger bag instead of a backpack, get a Baileyworks. They're indestructible and they hold absolutely everything you need.

No! There is an REI in the same complex as the Fenway AMC!

I recently bounght a "KELTY" backpack at CitySports in Harvard Square. It's somewhat large, but has a padded pouch and internal snap buckle strap for a laptop, and several internal pouches for batteries, power adapters, and other doodads. And the requisite pouches for notebooks, books, pencils, etc. I paid a reasonable price for it. It's called a "gigabyte day pack". They probably still have them in stock. --M

I got a laptop backpack at the Roches (sp?) sporting good store in Porter Square (outside of Porter on Mass Ave by the Post Office). The price was pretty reasonable, IIRC.

Hi there :
I work in the Fenway and go by REI every day on my way to the office.
Just catch the Green Line D Train at Park Street. You gett off the
train at the Fenway stop (right after Kenmore) and head towards the Bed,Bath and Beyond. REI is right next to Staples I believe. They'll definitely have what you need and it's a pretty easy trip.
