Biking Community?

I know Somerville has a huge biking community and am trying to do some research on that (the memories are all pretty old). I'm in the midst of my first bike purchase but would love to know more about community events, rides, groups, websites, etc about biking in and around the area (I live in Davis). Thanks!

On the http://bostonbiker.org page that Ron linked to, pay special attention to the Boston Biker Guides (about mid-page, on the left-hand side); tips for new riders, how to deal w/ winter riding, etc.
