I was told by some of the workers last week that Yellow Playground (Curtis-Hodgkins?) on Holland Ave is set to reopen this Saturday with a ribbon cutting ceremony? Does anyone have any more info or know if this is correct?

Thanks!

I didn't know it was called 'Yellow Playground'. How did it get that name?

The equipment, and in the fall, all the trees -- the ginko trees along the side, the locust trees, and a big maple in the back with some red but usually also all golden.

You have no idea (or maybe you do). At least in our family, ALL of the playgrounds have nicknames, most of which are specific to us. For example, the yellow park is "our playground", although the "yellow park" name does seem to be catching on. The park on Grove street is thus the "odee park" (i.e. other park). There's also Tufts park, Pemberton park, the butterfly park (on Dudley St. behind the Greek Corner), the sheep park (Powderhouse circle), and so on ad infinitum. Just sayin'.

We call the new one at Cambridge Common "the awesome park".

The water feature at the new Yellow (Hodgkins-Curtin)Playground will be very similar to the one at the new Cambridge Common (Alexander W. Kemp)Playground. So, more awesomeness!

Many also call it the Spider Web Playground (for its climbing structure), but I tend to go with The Greek Corner Playground (for the restaurant that is so nice about letting little ones use their bathroom)

But, really, I believe it's the Reverend Williams Playground.

Hehehehe. Kenney Park has been "Osco Park" to the Trickettes for as long as I can remember.

Back when Somerville first started redoing parks, the first new one I saw at the top of Prospect Hill got the nickname the piercing park, because of all the objects that looked like body piercing jewelery. Now lots of parks seem to be getting pierced, which just amuses me to no end...

Enough other stuff is happening this Saturday (June 19) that there wouldn't be room for a ribbon-cutting ceremony anyway. This Saturday is SomerStreets on Broadway, and Joe's Jazz and Blues Festival, and Family Fun Day at Trum Field, and the postponed Somerville Clean-Up Day.

Bouncy houses, facepainting, hot dogs or hamburgers, Mayor Joe in the dunk tank are what I remember.

The playground definitely looks nearly finished so that could be true, but the baseball field isn't yet. It would be silly to keep the playground closed until the field was ready though.

The playground is definitely not waiting for the field. In order to let the sod get going, the field is not supposed to be used until next spring.
