Do any corner stores around here sell prepaid cards where you scratch off and get a password for so-many minutes of 800-access dialup internet? I know this is the home of WoW-loving bandwidth junkies, but I want like a $5 card I can carry in my wallet for emergencies.

Once in a while I'm stuck somewhere w/o net access and a cellphone won't do, but it doesn't happen often enough for me to get a tethering plan. These cards used to be sold for business travelers before hotels started installing Wi-Fi, and theyres stuff like this being sold online, but I'd rather just pop into a bodega and get the card.

They used to sell those at Family Dollar but I haven't been there in a while and kind of stopped noticing a long time ago.

There's a bodega on Rindge Ave in North Cambridge, called Ferro's Foodtown (http://www.yelp.com/biz/ferros-food-town-cambridge), across from Russel Field/the pool (on the Alewife end of Rindge). It has all manner of prepaid telephone cards.

The online "cards" at http://onesuite.com works great for me. They have some of the cheapest rates I've found, including international calls, and no fees or connection charges.

The only catch is there's a $10 minimum purchase, and accounts get deactivated if you don't make any calls in 6 months. But I think your balance gets reactivated if you buy more minutes. There's also the 55 cent payphone fee, but there's no way around that one with any calling card.
