Boyfriend and I both have Wednesday off next week and I was hoping to have some awesome breakfast/brunch on a day when I wouldn't have to wait for a table! Where would you recommend? We live in Arlington and are open to anywhere in Arlington, Somerville and Cambridge.

Thanks!

The Neighborhood in Union Sq. I've never braved the weekend crowds, but my partner has had no problem during the week.

I walk past on weekdays: breakfast is pretty uncrowded. But is it under the kick-ass arbor like it is on weekends?

If the patio is open then inside isn't and vice versa - But when the weather is good they'll generally be open outside on weekdays too in my experience.

The neighborhood is great.

(If you're a weekend early riser (or late-stayer-upper), showing up at about 0730 gives you just enough time for a leisurely breakfast that runs about until it starts filling up and you feel guilty for lingering at your table)

Be sure to grab their special collapsed puff pastry thing. It's usually a caramel-ish color, and it'll be in your complimentary bread basket. There's almost always only one, so you and your partner might end up squabbling over it, as me and mine do..

They have an omelet with apples in it. It's delicious.

Ball Sq. Cafe is open daily 6:30am-3pm per their website, Soundbites at 7am. Can't imagine there are lines on weekdays, right?

Sometimes there are, usually Tufties.

But Tufts is out now, except for summer students.

Ah, but the Tufties are gone, they left all their crap on my sidewalk, I know! (no offense to actual responsible Tufts students, I just have a lot of serious party animals living around me ;) )

Not usually, and they will even let you sit and read the paper!

Don't know how fancy you want to get, but Henrietta's Table in the Charles Hotel has delicious breakfast that's less expensive than you'd think.

Oh, hells, yes. We've done that when needing to get to Mt Auburn early in the a.m. But, I bet it'd be just as tasty without the hospital admission.

I'm a big fan of Ball Sq Cafe, on Broadway. The food is delicious, and the staff is super nice. They have breakfast and lunch options. I'm always impressed by how fresh their fruit is, too.

I liked Singabella Cafe; family and I went there once for brunch, keep meaning to go back.
I'v had lunches there too, but not for several months. (that will change soon...)
It's at the corner of Mass Ave and Cameron Ave, North Cambridge.

And if you would consider a weekend brunch sometime, try Sabur on Holland St in Teele Sq. Family and I went there for Saturday 11AM brunch last spring: good food (mm, I loved the fig jam), and hardly anyone in the place.

Sabur does a gorgeous weekend brunch and they do it until 4pm!

Since you're in Arlington anyway keep in mind Broadway Diner(on Broadway), fairly standard diner breakfast food, but I like it.

there's also Classic Cafe on Mass. Ave. in Arlington Heights.

I also love the breakfasts at the Boradway Diner - nothing fancy, but delicious.

I had a delicious weekday brunch at Istanbul'lu in Teele Square. Earlier discussion of the restaurant here: http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/2225715.html

They don't open until 11 am on Wednesday, but if that's not too late I highly recommend them.

Another vote for the Neighborhood. If you haven't been there on a sunny day and sat outside, I highly recommend it.

The new place on Broadway, that used to be Bread and Company, that used to be Bickfords... Brunello maybe? Do they still serve breakfast during the week?

Trina's Starlite Lounge does Monday Brunch; most of the attendees are bartenders and restaurant workers who have Mondays off.

Which, of course, doesn't help you. But, you know, vaguely relevant to other people who might read this thread. :)

US Game

Are you taking the day off for the U.S. game? If so, I think you've got to go for straight diner food. Kelly's is open right? Eggs, toast, sausage. Everything you need.

Go USA!

Yes, Kelly's is open and great for breakfast.

Supreme Kitchen is also open for breakfast during the week.

Johnny D's was open for brunch during last week's US-Slovenia game, but I don't know if they're planning to repeat that for US-Algeria tomorrow.

Classic Cafe in Arlington Heights was my go to brunch place when I lived in the area. Bagels Are Us near the high school is also pretty decent.

This is outside your requested towns, but maybe worth mentioning anyway. Deluxe Town Diner (http://www.deluxetowndiner.com/) in Watertown is damn delicious. IMHO, they have the best pancakes I've ever had (get the sweet potato ones with pecans :). Also the rest of their food is awesome, and they have real maple syrup out on all of the tables. Yum.
