I'm selling a condo to a family member and I need to have my common area fire alarm inspected by an electrician (it's a 6 unit building). I called the company that installed the system and they want to charge me $400. Anyone know of a local electrician who would be willing to do this (and write a letter stating it's ok) for a reasonable amount of money?

Also, I have 2 free tix to a screening of Cyrus tonight at AMC Boston Commons at 7:00pm. If you want them, please comment, and they're yours. I would recommend getting there early as they typically give out more passes than seats.

Edit: I left messages for the last 2 electricians (Mike and Tom) recommended in an old post. Thanks for those!

Is this different from the usual fire alarm inspection ("smoke cert") that is required to sell property? Those inspections are done by the fire department, and the cost is $50. (If this is not in fact that, ignore me. :)

Interesting, I've never run into that situation before. Even in larger buildings, the FD has taken care of it when I've needed one. I wonder if this has something to do with the new regs that just went into effect. Personally, I'd just ask the FD whyfor.

Also, on the off chance that there's been another sale in your building within the past <60 days, you may want to see if there is an existing cert that's still usable for the common space.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

(And correction to my comment above: the fee now appears to be $75.)
