McCrehan Pool: Am I just totally out of it or what?

Maybe everyone else has known this for years, but I hadn't realized that there was a totally free public outdoor swimming pool a pleasant five-minute bike ride from Davis.

It's not the prettiest or quietest pool in the world of course, but at that ridiculous level of convenience, I foresee a lot of fifteen-minute morning dips in my summer.

Summer hours, according to one site I found are:

10:00am - 7:00pm weekdays
11:00am - 7:00pm weekends

I was actually just going to ask about these pools earlier. Do you know anything about the Dilboy pool? It's outdoor, right? Is there any shade? Are there changing rooms and bathrooms? etc. . . .

Both pools (Dilboy and McCrehan) are outdoors with little to no shade other than the little provided by the changing room buildings. Both have changing rooms. If you insist on the highest level of cleanliness, neither pool is likely for you as they are both slowly sliding into shabby decrepitude, but for a quick, free cool down on a hot day, they're not as bad as they look.

Although both pools (and the one at Foss Park) are in parks that have shade trees.

They're kinda gross, in an endearing way. You'll have to go check them out I suppose, to see where they fall on your personal gross-o-meter. We like the Cambridge one fine. The Dilboy is meh; we'd go there if there weren't other choices, but the Cambridge one is marginally less gross.

If cleanliness bothers you a lot, you might still be happy using the pools and not changing in the changing rooms. If you avoid those then it's just lots of concrete and chlorinated water.

When did you go? It was supposed to open (http://www.mass.gov/dcr/recreate/waterfront.pdf) this past weekend, the 26th, but I haven't been there yet.

Woot, thanks for pointing this out! Granted, I just find out the other day that there was a pool there, I had no idea it was free, which means I am more likely to check this out sooner rather than later...
