Anyone lost a cat?

Been seeing a gray shorthair cat with yellow eyes walking around this neighborhood for some time. My friend lives here too and she says she's seen it around since at least the first week of June. He (I think?) is really affectionate and talkative. Anyone know anything about this cat? I'm pretty close to just taking it to the vet for a checkup and trying to find a home for it myself.

Any help appreciated!

I'm checking with a friend who has an outdoor cat matching that description. They're out of the country right now, however, so I'd think they'd have made sure he was taken care of.

Yeah, it was probably Merlin. I let him out on the fourth and he didn't turn up again until tonight. He normally comes back the same day!

The O.P. said he was out since the first of June. Does Merlin have on-going indoor-outdoor privledges?

Yeah, he's normally outdoors quite often, as he goes kinda crazy cooped up indoors for too long.

Was it this cat (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mzrowan/3285212274/)?

if he tolerates it, you could try putting a collar on him with a note wrapped around it.

that's probably my cat. we're in argentina, and both cats were locked inside when we left, but it sounds like some of their caretakers have let them out in our absence. He normally wears a collar, but he tore it off recently. He doesn't have a chip. We love him a lot - please do not take him to the vet or "adopt" him in our absence. He used to be a feral cat, and he's very friendly, but he honestly does have a good home.

Any vet should be able to scan the cat for a chip. A lot of owners chip their cats these days. If this one has one, then you can find out who its owner is.

That is so Merlin.

(Also, the captcha for this was "general fourier" — perspicuously matched with a userpic that I reserve for circumstances with delightfully crisp signal/noise.)
