Being a nicer cyclist

What are some ways that cyclists can positively engage drivers, gain their respect, and encourage them to use caution when they are sharing the road with cyclists?

The cyclist has 360-degree visiblity and can stop much further forward in the intersection (often in front of the crosswalk instead of behind it). Not being enclosed in glass and steel makes it much easier to determine that it is safe to proceed through the red light.
