Local, awesome, chocolatier Taza's production floor was wrecked by the weekend flooding: http://www.tazachocolate.com/Blog/P/152

They need people to buy chocolate & merch so they can rebuild. (Inventory was safe on an upper floor.) IIRC they sell at the farmers' market (happening right now), Diesel, True Grounds, Dave's Fresh...

Me, I figure if chocolate just has to be eaten to make the world a better place, that is a job I can handle.

Guess it's time to finally try them...they also were at Pemberton Farms last I checked.

gee, a rebuilding effort that involves chocolate? what a hardship.... heh.

Ooh, I tried a Taza-flavored yogurt at BerryLine last week or so. I assume that was the same Taza?

I know they rotate the yogurt flavors, but maybe if they haven't already done it themselves (I haven't been back since), customers should suggest bringing back that flavor for a little while... If whatever product they use to make the yogurt wasn't damaged, that might be a nice order for Taza.

Maybe I have no idea how any of that works, but any excuse to go buy more frozen yogurt, right?

I made a rule (for my bank account) that I'm only allowed to get BerryLine if I'm already in that area for another errand, which is about once a week. No destination trips allowed. But the next time I hit it up, I'll definitely ask about the flavor if I don't see it. :)

You assume correctly. Also, Berryline sometimes has Taza chocolate (broken into pieces) available as a topping... but not always.

I love it. I know some people don't like the rough texture of it, but I find it extremely pleasing and satisfying, so it's currently my favorite too-expensive-for-regular-consumption chocolate.

I like it, too.

Not everyone likes Mexican-style chocolate, which is fine of course because MORE FOR ME.

Taza is very different from most other chocolates I've had. It's much grainier and has a raw, "fruity" aftertaste with a lot of aggressive complexity.

Some people dislike it. I have a friend with sophisticated taste in chocolate, who buys single-origin bars and makes his own truffles, that thinks it's gross. Me, I love it to bits and it's the only bar chocolate that I buy anymore.

This flood makes me very sad, and I would be even sadder if they went out of business.

I dimly recall that Fiore di Nonna makes their cheese in the same building or very close by - anyone know how they fared in the flooding? I am also willing to buy quantities of cheese for a good cause.

I love Pocky chocolate sticks!

Not sure why chocolate stores in the US are not running with that concept. Or perhaps they do and I'm not aware.

There's also a tasting and sale going on at Cambridge Naturals (in the POrter Square Plaza right next to the bookstore).

Here's the info:

TAZA CHOCOLATE needs our community's support!

Massive flooding in Somerville from last Saturday's storm left TAZA'S brand new production facility in RUINS.

Insurance appears not to cover "acts of God" leaving them with little cash to repair and rebuild. So....HOW CAN WE HELP????

Cambridge Naturals has purchased a large supply of their chocolate bars and 'Mexicanos" and we will be offering them to you at a more than 20 % discount in order to help TAZA raise cash for the clean-up and going operations.

THE SUPPORT SALE BEGINS TODAY!

Your purchase of their products for yourself and for gifting to others will be a big boost to this local and special community business.

A TAZA chocolate tasting will be held at Cambridge Naturals
this Saturday, July 17, from 3-5PM.

Come and taste, buy some bars and show your support!

You can read their flood blog at: http://www.tazachocolate.com/Blog/P/152

I stopped by shortly after 09:30 this morning and picked up two bars, two discs, and a tin of nibs (also some candied ginger.) They were out of some products and said they were waiting for a shipment. I expect it is in by now, but call to check.
