On Sunday, July 25, 11am-5pm, the Somerville Garden Club will sponsor a tour of food-producing gardens in Somerville. "Incredible Edible Gardens of Somerville: A Self-Guided Tour" will feature over two-dozen public and private sites where fruits, vegetables, and herbs come together in a delicious medley. On display will be the ingenious methods of dedicated urban growers who appreciate raising their own food, be it on a small rooftop or in a spacious community garden. Gardeners will be available to share their experiences and answer questions, and presentations on garden techniques such as constructing a hoop house and worm composting will take place throughout the day.

In preparation for the tour, members of the Somerville Garden Club learned that Somerville has a long history of farming and agricultural production. A pamphlet providing a brief timeline of agrarian development, a map, and descriptions of all the gardens on the tour are included in the ticket booklet. Tickets admit holders to all the sites on the tour. Participants are encouraged if possible to walk, bike, or take the bus to move about the city to enjoy the wide variety of activities available.

From July 1 through July 24, tickets [$10] are on sale at the following locations: Sherman Café, 257 Washington St., Somerville; True Grounds, 717 Broadway, Somerville; and Pemberton Garden Center, 2225 Mass. Ave., Cambridge.

On Sunday, July 25, the day of the tour, ticket sales will begin at 10:30am at the Davis Square Statue Park, opposite the MBTA, and at the Somerville Community Growing Center, 22 Vinal Ave., Union Square. The tour lasts until 5:00pm, tickets will be sold until 4:00pm.

Reserve Sunday, July 25, 11:00am-5:00pm, for a day with family and friends to discover the "Incredible Edible Gardens of Somerville." For more information, please visit http://www.somervillegardenclub.org
